Title: An Amazing Jazz Audition |
Style: Chorale/Latin Jazz |
Composer: Traditional |
Arranger: Dr. Chris Sharp |
Grade: 2 |
|
Instrumentation: Standard Big Band 5,4,4, Rhy
Description: Welcome to your jazz audition with "An Amazing Jazz Audition." Remember on the intro to play extremely legato and to make a contrast with the Latin-jazz section. Also, the drum auditions are the exact same audition throughout all Cyberwindsmusic.com jazz audition materials, so listen to the different examples and embellishments by Jazz Drummer Paul Parker to really get a grasp on the expectations of the drum audition. Remember, the style sheets for drums are the main audition, the actual tune itself is for call-backs only. Please learn both.

Title: Kissimmee Blues |
Style: Swing |
Composer: Russ Weaver |
Arranger: Russ Weaver |
Grade: 2 |
|
Instrumentation: Traditional Jazz Band
Description: This page is an original composition designed specifically for district-level and State-level jazz auditions. Can be used for Middle School or High School aged students, Kissimmee Blues has what it takes to really get your students fired up to audition.
Students can use these tracks to practice with for their audition and teachers will use the same tracks (available on CD with chart purchase) at the actual audition. Each student will be able to practice with these tracks from anywhere they practice via the internet. Parts come complete with scoring rubric so that everyone is scoring the same way and the rubric has blanks for flexible scoring.
The chart can be also used as a stand-alone jazz combo chart and works with any combination of horns.

Title: Straight No Chaser |
Style: Swing med. and fast |
Composer: Thelonius Monk |
Arranger: Weaver |
Grade: 2 |
|
Instrumentation: All Instruments in Big Band
Description: Here is a wonderful All County audition piece used first in 1999-2000 school year in Osceola County. Students should play the head the first time through at either tempo. Solos should be the second time through. Third time through can be more soloing or for guitar or piano people a chance to comp the chords and the 4th chorus should be the head once again. On the 4th chorus brass players can show off their chops by taking portions of the head up an octave if possible. Brass players can also show their range during their 2 chorus of soloing.
Remember to download only YOUR part unless you are a guitar player who will need to download the piano part for the melody.

Title: A Mighty HS Jazz Audition |
Style: Multi-Meter Swing |
Composer: Traditional |
Arranger: Chris Sharp |
Grade: 5 |
|
Instrumentation: Standard Big Band 5,4,4, Rhy
Description: Students,
Welcome to another installment of jazz audition material. This audition piece is an amazing ride through a chart that requires a bit of study. Good luck with this audition and remember that for the piano, there is a one measure click-off before measure #1. (Also remember that the measure is in 5!)
Drummers, remember that the drum auditions for all Cyberwindsmusic.com auditions are exactly the same and their are different examples and explanations of this sheet by jazz drummer Mr. Paul Parker on each audition area of this web page. Listen to them all and remember that the drum audition sheet is the 4 grooves sheet first and the actual tune second. Typically the tune is used for call-backs only. Good luck!

Title: Quest for the Red Knight |
Style: Various |
Composer: Chris Sharp |
Arranger: Russ Weaver |
Grade: 5 |
|
Instrumentation: Traditional Jazz Band
Description: This is the All-County High School Jazz Audition piece for 2008-2009. Percussionists, please listen to the example files provided for a better Idea of "how" to interpret the Drum Style Audition page. Drummers will also be asked to perform Quest. Vibraphonists will need to read off the guitar part and pull what ever they can off of the sound files. ALL students must use the guitar part to grad the chord changes (don't forget to transpose!) for the short solo section (61-121 8 Bars... remember this is a smaller version of the much longer chart... that explains the numbers). It is suggested that you "write" out your idea of what this improvised solo should be. Try and nail those chord changes. You can do it. Drummers, again this is a Buddy Rich Style audition piece, which means that if you have not listened to some Buddy Rich, now would be the perfect time to do so.

Title: The Man with the Bus HS Audition |
Style: Latin, Swing, Mambo |
Composer: Dave MacKenzie |
Arranger: D Mack |
Grade: 5 |
|
Instrumentation: Standard American Big Band
Description: Saxes: Your auditions are read down with the exception of the solo section. If you would like to solo great, go for it! If not, read the backgrounds with energy.
Trumpet 1-2: Parts are the same except the screaming lead parts are down the octave. Solo over the chord changes or play the background figures, the choice is yours. (Soloing is cool.)
Trombone 1-2: Parts are the same except the screaming lead parts are down the octave. Solo over the chord changes or play the background figures, the choice is yours. (Soloing is cool.)
Bass: Create your OWN Bass lines, suggestions have been made on the part but you will need to write out your own Bass lines in spots. (Just like a real jazz gig...)
Piano: Create your OWN voicings, suggestions have been made on the part but you will need to write out your own voicings in spots. Hint: most of the voicings appear at least once in the chart, all you need to do is find them.
