Cantabile Prime is a remarkably playable grade 1 festival solo for the young alto saxophonist. Contrasting styles and modern harmonies give the performer a classical approach with distinctively modern, fun and playful harmonies. Primarily lyrical in nature, the contrasting middle style is playful and fun and reminiscent of an older whimsical style popular with turn of the century community band literature.  This recording features George Weremchuck, professor of Saxophone at the University of Central Florida and Christine Ahrens on piano.

     A Change of Seasons is a grade 1 tuba solo that concentrates on legato playing with a short contrasting marcato middle section. The solo is just at 2 minutes and will give the most important instrument in the band a great way to take that first step at any solo and ensemble festival. There is opportunity to study canon as the last transition sets up a small canon ending with the Tuba. Range is from low Ab1 to C3 and the writing provides plenty of room for resting and counting.  Here's a grade 1 flute solo that has been graded an easy 2 because of the high G that occurs once. Great piece to use for weddings and special occasions or for that first or second solo and ensemble festival.      Beautiful Savior is a very popular Lutheran hymn and this setting allows a young clarinetist the ability to access this piece with a very modern piano part. The setting requires a strong pianist who will want to work through the syncopations of Peter Prochnow. Good for solo and ensemble festivals as well as an excellent choice for special music at church. Use one chorus or all 4 choruses, simply tag the intro and coda onto your choice if necessary.

     Here's a sacred clarinet and piano piece that features both instruments. The piano part is grade 4+ and is syncopated like Dave Grusin's music and the clarinet part remains quite simple rhythmically and only ventures out of the staff for a couple of bars. Range for the clarinet is up to high D (once) otherwise it stays in the staff. Great for advanced MS or average HS clarinetist to perform with a staff pianist at church for special music.
